After 10 years of hard work and planning by TRACKS, the Loch Leven Heritage Trail is now complete and open to walkers and cyclists who can enjoy a full circuit around the Loch. Allison’s were awarded the contract by TRACKS in 2013 to complete the final phase of this project by providing path works, fencing and planting from Kinross Mill to Vane Farm (the remaining section of the Loch).
Allison Enterprises created the final section of the Loch Leven track which now does a complete 13 mile loop of the Loch. Along with the path itself Allison’s also provided:
- Post and Rylock fencing
- Screen mesh fencing
- Temporary fencing
- Hedge planting
- Woodland planting
- Earthworks (new ponds, pond restoration and bunds)
- Installation of walls and viewpoints
The project presented a few challenges. The wet weather throughout the project meant that it was often difficult to access some parts of the track due to ground conditions. Specialist machines were brought in to overcome this and allowed us to bring materials and staff onto site safely.
To complete such a project successfully it was important that Allison Enterprises liaised with the numerous parties involved in the project, these being TRACKS, local land owners whose property we had to agree access with, the architects who designed the view points, RSPB & SNH, and the public who use the track daily.
Loch Leven is a nature reserve and one of our biggest concerns was to not disturb any of the wildlife which uses the loch as their home. Allison’s had to be flexible in our approach to the project and worked with the RSPB and SNH to schedule our work as they recommended. With the assistance of bog mats, tracked machines and a drag box method we were able to lay the path without disturbing the surrounding wildlife.

Throughout the project Allison’s communicated with the projects various concerned parties to ensure the project was operating safely, on schedule and without disturbance. The team worked hard to complete the project on time and were delighted to attend the Opening Ceremony in May.
